Anagrammer is ideal when you want to explore a particular letter combination without working through every possible arrangement yourself. It searches your chosen dictionary and returns real matching words rather than meaningless combinations of letters.

How to Use Anagrammer

Enter up to 12 letters, hit Solve, and Anagrammer will display the matching words. Use a question mark (?) for a wildcard that can represent any letter.

Results are initially arranged by word length, making complete anagrams easy to spot at the top. Open Filters if you would rather order the words by score or separate results according to the wildcards they use.

The Advanced options allow you to search for words that begin with, end with, or contain particular letters. You can also add Hook Letters when you need to combine your selection with letters already available on a word-game board.

What Is an Anagrammer?

An anagrammer can be a person who creates or solves anagrams, or a tool that rearranges letters to find them. This online Anagrammer handles the mechanical searching, giving you the possible dictionary words so you can concentrate on the puzzle.

A true anagram uses every supplied letter exactly once. Anagrammer also displays shorter words made from some of those letters because many word puzzles reward you for finding more than one answer.

The tool searches for individual dictionary entries. It does not construct multi-word phrase anagrams or decide which result best answers a clue.

Find Complete Anagrams

If you enter LISTEN, the full-length results include ENLIST, INLETS, SILENT, and TINSEL. Each word uses the same six letters exactly once, so each is a complete anagram of LISTEN.

Repeated letters are treated separately. If your original selection contains two copies of a letter, a matching anagram can use both; if it contains only one, the result cannot use that letter twice unless you have also entered a wildcard.

Complete anagrams are useful for jumbled-word questions, classroom exercises, newspaper puzzles, and games that ask you to rearrange every supplied letter into a new word.

Find Shorter Words from the Same Letters

Some puzzles ask for as many words as possible rather than one exact anagram. Anagrammer therefore continues beyond the full-length matches and shows shorter words that can be made from the same selection.

Starting with the longest results can reveal the main answer quickly. The shorter groups then help you find additional words, use an awkward leftover letter, or complete another part of a letter-based puzzle.

Every result depends on the dictionary you select. Choose Scrabble - English US, Scrabble - English UK, Words With Friends, or Everything according to the puzzle you are trying to solve. A word accepted by one dictionary may be absent from another.

Use Anagrammer with Wildcards

A wildcard is useful when one letter is missing or when a game supplies a blank tile. Add a question mark in place of the unknown letter and Anagrammer will test the letters that could complete a valid word.

Wildcards can produce a large number of results, so begin with the letters you know. You can then use the length, score, and wildcard filters to narrow the possibilities.
